Do You Know your Best Colors?

Color is Important. We all tend to have a favorite color or maybe a color we absolutely despise, it may remind you of past fashion choices that scarred you so badly it made you swear off being adventurous in your clothing choices ever again. Maybe that last sentence didn’t apply to you, but you must agree that color can tell a lot about a person, place, or thing.

A year ago my two sisters and I received a color analysis, an analysis that would reveal our best colors and our worst. We walked in with our guesses of what color season we might be, and walked out thinking “do I even own any of those colors.” By no means was our color analysis a disappointment, but we knew it would be difficult retraining our brains to pick out bright Spring colors at the store without feeling like we were dressing up as clowns.

For some context, your color analysis is determined by your undertones of your skin, and as badly as you might want to, you can’t change what colors look best on you. Before you start picking which season you WANT to be, just know that you’ll love your colors no matter what they are because you’ll look glowing In them!

There are four color seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter, each of which have their own set of unique colors. Spring and Autumn have warm undertones and Summer and Winter are cool toned. The first step in figuring out what season you are is deciding if you are warm or cool toned. Cool tones are blue-based and tend to be more icy while warm tones are yellow-based and lean more golden in hue. A Great way to find this out on your own is taking a picture of yourself and searching for more icy or golden hues. The harder part will be deciding whether or not you look good in soft, muted colors or bright and clear colors. Try and hold up different clothing pieces to your face to see if there’s a difference, the biggest difference being a splotchier face and more redness when your color isn’t near.

This method is not fool proof so definitely think about getting your colors professionally done! Besides it saving us money when going to the mall, we also had a blast connecting during this experience, insecurities and all. Try not to cry about it like my little sister but it can be heartbreaking and exciting to hear your results, so be prepared for both. I’m proud to say my little sister wears our colors the most out of all of us, and has more confidence than ever In getting in the dressing room!

Here we are a year later after getting my colors done and I might still have a shopping addiction but I now have the skills to know when to put an item back on the rack and when it’s a keeper. I’ve saved ginormous amounts of time in the store and even more money when distinguishing the worth of the item! Don’t sleep on receiving a color analysis, we did ours with House of Colour, which I’ll link below!
