Who remembers playing dress up as kid in your mom’s closet or putting on your favorite princess dress to play in? I loved playing dress-up, for me there’s something so fun about changing up your look and emulating people you’re inspired by. Maybe you didn’t play dress up as a kid but you’ve definitely watched a movie or say a piece of media that inspired you to wear a particular accessory or do your hair a certain way. Sometimes not having inspiration can make us want to put the same 3 outfits on day after day. Get out of this funk and look around and find creativity somewhere, your clothes are meant to make you happy so stop wearing what every other influencer suggests you wear and start being the trendsetter, wear what inspires you and makes you feel free!
I thought I would start this series off with someone I’m inspired by. Sleeping Beauty is a film that I watch and feel as though romance might not be dead, the movie feels melancholy yet there’s always beauty to be found within each part of the story. Aurora always had kindness and hope In dark places. You might be asking what does her character have to do with putting an outfit togethor? Everything, everything about how you clothe your body, to how you wear your hair, to how you hold yourself creates an impression upon people.
Something I love about the old Disney movies is they showed deep and often dark themes in their princess movies that kept even adults intrigued. Sleeping beauty knew darkness and light, she wasn’t a clueless woman that just fell asleep and needed a prince to kiss her, she was a woman who rushed into love but knew true love would conquer the evil, she’s more relatable than we may like to admit. Before she became known as Aurora she lived with the fairies and was known as Briar Rose. Still a beauty she simply wore clothes with less vibrancy as she did not come from wealth.
As for her iconic dress, you’ll have to pick if you’re more of a blue or pink kinda person. Simple elegance is the look we’re trying to go for!
